This ancient place symbolizes for me how important it is to honor the past, know those who came long before us, exhibit craftsmanship, and build for the long haul. I have sought to do all this since 2005. While speaking out of very Progressive political leanings, I still maintain a deep love of the Constitution.

S/SW blog philosophy -
I credit favorite writers and public opinion makers.
A lifelong Democrat, my comments on Congress, the judiciary and the presidency are regular features.
My observations and commentary are on people and events in politics that affect the USA or the rest of the world, and stand for the interests of peace, security and justice.

The news in time and space
When you look beneath the lilly pads, the pond seems dark and deep.
The national and international news is a bit like the pond - the truth is dark and hidden beneath the surface. Managed, murky and sometimes "mucky;" what is really going on is hard to discern.
Being out of touch with the news is surprisingly easy. Censoring my newspaper and TV consumption means that the world goes on absolutely beyond my control. And, the reality is that it is beyond my control anyway. What I want is to control it and that is an illusion, a dangerous illusion for one's peace of mind.
Catching up is a surprise, because what becomes apparent is that not much has changed. The same issues grab the headlines, the same newsmakers, the same stories are as neglected as before and progress is like cold molasses. Can one get news fatique? Perhaps that is my diagnosis. I remain "on vacation."
I breathe fresh air, enjoy country vistas, have great conversations, and re-ground myself. It is enough for now. But know that I remain connected to the larger world, with the comfort of the blogosphere. Until later. . .
