Mountains - allow one's eyes to have something upon which to rest.
Returning to the area of my birth and maturation (such as it is) means having mountains on the horizon, a big change for me. And the peaks and valleys are a welcome sight.
The sky is incredibly blue. The mountains are a much darker shade of blue, topped with a mound of "whipped cream" snow.
There are remainders of glacial meanderings, and the dark of evergreen trees and the unmistakable tree line, above which only small plants will grow. I am enjoying the familiar scenes, the freshness of Spring, which comes much later that in the Southwest.
Lilacs flourish, brooks and streams run clear and cold, and the nights are chilly. I realize how much "in my head" I have been in recent months. Nature's sensuous pleasures refresh my soul, as do the familiar places and animals. As you can tell from my wandering mind, I am still on vacation. . .
This ancient place symbolizes for me how important it is to honor the past, know those who came long before us, exhibit craftsmanship, and build for the long haul. I have sought to do all this since 2005. While speaking out of very Progressive political leanings, I still maintain a deep love of the Constitution.

A lifelong Democrat, my comments on Congress, the judiciary and the presidency are regular features.
My observations and commentary are on people and events in politics that affect the USA or the rest of the world, and stand for the interests of peace, security and justice.
