My blog is often unwittingly visited by web surfers looking for the "South by Southwest" festival. These unfortunate folks have done a Google search for "south by southwest." The search today turned up 35,200,000 results, including the blog you are now reading - usually about 6th or 7th on that list.
What people were looking for is this: The South by Southwest Festival is happening March 9-18 in Austin, Texas. Activities include a Film Festival (3/9-17), an Interactive Trade Show (3/9-13) a Music Festival (3/14-18). Reuters lists the "buzz bands" to watch out for. There was an Annual Web Awards Ceremony on March 11. Michael Moore will be featured in a documentary. Dan Rather will be interviewed today at 2:00 pm. Here is the latest list of other confirmed speakers.
Gobs of blogs - SXSW Baby! was begun in 2000 by Paul Bausch, Meg Hourihan and Evan Williams. Daniel Appelquist's blog is South by Southwest Live Notes. Also, Norbert the Cod's there blogging, too. Richard Driver posts at Blogging Stocks. I conclude this news flash with a link to a site called SxSWDiary.com. Their banner reads,
SxSW Diary is a blog set up by Paul Middlege and Kieron Norfield to detail their trip to SxSW Interactive 2007. Sponsored by their employer, Norwich Union, this blog will be used to share their experiances and learnings at SxSW with their work colleagues back in the UK.Post Script - In other Texas news, Halliburton is moving their corporate headquarters from Houston to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. To quote,
Oil services giant Halliburton Co. will soon shift its corporate headquarters from Houston to the Mideast financial powerhouse of Dubai, chief executive Dave Lesar announced Sunday.
Lesar, speaking at an energy conference in nearby Bahrain, said he will relocate to Dubai from Texas to oversee Halliburton's intensified focus on business in the Mideast and energy-hungry Asia, home to some of the world's most important oil and gas markets.
