S/SW blog philosophy -

I credit favorite writers and public opinion makers.

A lifelong Democrat, my comments on Congress, the judiciary and the presidency are regular features.

My observations and commentary are on people and events in politics that affect the USA or the rest of the world, and stand for the interests of peace, security and justice.

Road ahead unclear

Summer vacations-
Where did you go on your summer vacation? That used to be a standard opening question for a school teacher to use to break the ice with her fledgeling class members. September 2006 will provide some interesting answers from the little ones.

How will you go?The mail just yielded a very slick and thick vehicle brochure for one of the leading car manufacturers. Beautiful colors abounded, the prices were rock bottom, there were real deals to be made. The problem was that the ad was for gas-guzzler SUV's.

How to afford it - It is no wonder that sales are down. Many of us are planning road trips and wondering how to pay for the gas. I wonder if a reverse mortgage could be used for a trip?

Consumers out in front of business - The nation has yet to make the transition to alternative energy sources for transportation, but consumers are absolutely ripe for it, in my opinion. They will be forced to lead auto makers and energy companies to the change kicking and screaming.

Remember, all this came into being in Veep Cheney's office shortly after the election. At that time the powers that be met secretly to set the wheels in motion (no pun intended). And we were off on this wild ride. Put your fog lights on, folks, and get your billfold out where it is handy.
Oh, and don't forget to vote when the time comes.
