This ancient place symbolizes for me how important it is to honor the past, know those who came long before us, exhibit craftsmanship, and build for the long haul. I have sought to do all this since 2005. While speaking out of very Progressive political leanings, I still maintain a deep love of the Constitution.

A lifelong Democrat, my comments on Congress, the judiciary and the presidency are regular features.
My observations and commentary are on people and events in politics that affect the USA or the rest of the world, and stand for the interests of peace, security and justice.

Michael Yon : The Battle For Mosul IV
Michael Yon : Online Magazine: The Battle For Mosul IV is just a great story about the lives of fighting soldiers in Iraq. Yon is a good writer and his site affords readers an "imbed's" inside look that is most interesting.
This is not an advertisement for his site, by the way.
Saturday Iraq voters will get an opportunity to vote on their first constitution. It will be very interesting to see the results. The United States has a lot riding on the success of this election. The BBC online gives a good overview of what is at stake here. The more successful this election is, the sooner our soldiers can come home.
This NYT article discusses the increased efforts to make it safe for Sunni voters to cast their ballots. Recent changes (source: CNN) to the Constitution may also increase the chances of more Sunni participation in the voting. The more all Iraqis grab onto their own destiny, the more quickly the U. S. can withdraw.
