This ancient place symbolizes for me how important it is to honor the past, know those who came long before us, exhibit craftsmanship, and build for the long haul. I have sought to do all this since 2005. While speaking out of very Progressive political leanings, I still maintain a deep love of the Constitution.

A lifelong Democrat, my comments on Congress, the judiciary and the presidency are regular features.
My observations and commentary are on people and events in politics that affect the USA or the rest of the world, and stand for the interests of peace, security and justice.

Professor Mary Habeck's study of Jihadis
Johns Hopkins professor, Mary Habeck studies radical Islamists whom she terms "Jihadis." After hearing her speak last year, I learned an important new way of understanding the mind of the Jihadi.
In 2004 she was serving as adjunct professor of military history at Yale University. Lawrence Auster wroter an excellent summary of Habeck’s thesis that was published in the 8/16/04 issue of FrontPage online magazine.
Mary Habeck appeared twice on C-Span last year where I discovered her, explaining her fascinating ideas about how Jihadist terrorists came to believe as they do. See her featured speech at the Heritage Foundation, or appearing on the C-Span morning journal. (After clicking on this link, enter “Habeck” as the search term).
Professor Habeck has written a book about her ideas that I think will be worth the read. Yale Press published this about her upcoming book. Habeck’s new book on this subject is coming out next year.
Mary Habeck, who defines herself as neither conservative nor liberal, feels strongly that Muslims of good faith and good will should point out the error of the Jihadis' use of violence in the name of Islam. Here is a link to a post by a Muslim writer on the fight for the soul of Islam.
On the opposite side, is a blog by an Arab American Christian that is harshly against all of Islam.
And, just to keep the Liberal antiwar perspective in mind, here is a recent very poignant newspaper editorial by Missy Comley Beatty, who is the aunt of a soldier recently killed in Iraq.
