This ancient place symbolizes for me how important it is to honor the past, know those who came long before us, exhibit craftsmanship, and build for the long haul. I have sought to do all this since 2005. While speaking out of very Progressive political leanings, I still maintain a deep love of the Constitution.

A lifelong Democrat, my comments on Congress, the judiciary and the presidency are regular features.
My observations and commentary are on people and events in politics that affect the USA or the rest of the world, and stand for the interests of peace, security and justice.

Reflections 0n Congressional Roadblocks
Reflections on congressional roadblocks on the last day of quite a year of Republican obstructionism: Republicans repeatedly placed irrational roadblocks in the way of solving the so-called "fiscal cliff" dilemma. In the end however, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Veep Joe Biden worked out a deal that was mostly a win for Democrats. We'll see whether the recalcitrant U.S. House of Representatives will do what they need to do to pass it for the good of our country. In the end, I think the Hastert rule will fall out of use, just as the no new taxes pledge to Emporer Grover Norquist must eventually fall out of favor. Happy New Year, Citizens! Enjoy our government at work.
