This ancient place symbolizes for me how important it is to honor the past, know those who came long before us, exhibit craftsmanship, and build for the long haul. I have sought to do all this since 2005. While speaking out of very Progressive political leanings, I still maintain a deep love of the Constitution.

A lifelong Democrat, my comments on Congress, the judiciary and the presidency are regular features.
My observations and commentary are on people and events in politics that affect the USA or the rest of the world, and stand for the interests of peace, security and justice.

Juan Cole's argument
As follow-up to my previous rather flippant "meme" post, I want to recommend this (title-linked) article at the Informed Comment blog. Professor Cole makes a reasoned, as well as passionate, rebuttal to our current president's recent speech about the so-called war on terrorism. The professor patiently takes apart the speech, paragraph by paragraph. The post is a bit lengthy but worth the read.
