S/SW blog philosophy -

I credit favorite writers and public opinion makers.

A lifelong Democrat, my comments on Congress, the judiciary and the presidency are regular features.

My observations and commentary are on people and events in politics that affect the USA or the rest of the world, and stand for the interests of peace, security and justice.

I love convergence

Here it is! This link puts together the controversial John Bolton nomination as our UN ambassador, and the Downing Street memo that gives conviction to the idea that our current president was not honest with us.
It seems that Mr. Bolton's fingerprints are far too frequently found on decisions that put the United States on the path of aggression. It shouldn't be a surprise; all we have to do is watch the man in action. It is my belief that his aggressive style is the perfect tool for his superiors to use when they want to justify a decision that will lead to war. His is one of a number of shouting voice behind the scenes, whose messages the wordsmiths clean up and package as the talking points of the day. And, as if by magic, the Administration comes across as "reasonable" or "heading in the right direction."
And so the anxieties set in motion by the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01 seem to diminish. But, to continue the war, our anxieties need to be continually fed. We are told we cannot relax; THEY may attack again at any time. So we "must fight them on their own turf." Unfortunately the war in Iraq was waged on the wrong turf. It only became Terrorist Turf as a result of Operation Iraqi Freedom. It was not so before.
Seeing this pattern of convergence was not original with me. The blogosphere talks about it in way or another every day. It is not paranoia. It is coming into consciousness. It is essential. It is the way I am able to remind myself that I am not crazy, that this administration is temporary, and that the truth about reality is precious.
